FIREARMS SAFETY

All Guns are always loaded
Keep your firearm pointing down range
Keep you finger off the trigger until your sites are on the target



​​​The range rules presented here are a synopsis of the rules contained in the HVSA Range Rules and Operational Procedures.   All member are required to take the Range Safety and Orientation Class before they are permitted to use the firearms and archery ranges.

                                                                                        GUN RANGE

All targets must be hung from the target wire.  Do not set any targets on the berm
 
   1. No Alcoholic Beverages are permitted on the range.  Consume alcoholic drinks after your shooting session is done. 
   2. Only 3 shooters are permitted at one time on the firing line.
   3. No loaded firearms will be left unattended.
   4. Load only the gun you plan to shoot.  Any other loaded firearm must be secured on your person
   5. Only one shooter at a time is permitted to use rapid fire.
   6. Rapid fire of more that 10 rounds at a time is not permitted, unless there is a break of one 
       minute between rounds of rapid fire by all shooters. 
   7. When members are down range no loaded firearms are permitted on the line or bench
   8. Do not shoot glass bottles, cement blocks, or metal plates thicker than 1/16 inch thick.
   9. Shooters under the age of 18 years old must use eye and ear protection.  
 10. When shooting from the 50 yard bench put up the safety chain across the driveway.
 11. Clean up after shooting.  Remove your targets and police the range for expended brass.

                    Note: Trigger Actuators are not permitted by our Range Rules under paragraph 5, 
                              Authorized & permitted firearms and  ammunition.  "Bump Stocks" are considered trigger 
                              actuators and therefor are not permitted on the Gun Range.  Be advised they may also be   
                              illegal under the NYS Safe Act.  

                                                                                 ARCHERY RANGES

 1. No Alcoholic Beverages are permitted on the ranges.  Consume alcoholic drinks after your shooting session is done. 
 2. No alterations to the ranges are permitted without the permission of the Archery Chairman.
 3. When down range retrieving arrows or checking targets all bows must be secured.
 4. Clean up after your archery session is done.

                                                                                    50 Yard Range 

 1. Broadhead & Mechanical Broadhead arrows are allowed.
 2. Only three shooters are permitted on the line at one time.
 
                                                                             Walk-Thru Archery Range 

 1. Upon entering the Walk-Thru range, put up the sign indicating the range is in use.
 2. Shoot only at 3D targets or targets on backstops.
 3. ABSOLUTELY NO BROADHEADS OR MECHANICAL BROADHEADS ARE ALLOWED.
 4. Only one shooter is permitted on the line at each shooting station.
